Description
Heartwarming Polish Cabbage Rolls, filled with seasoned beef and rice, enveloped in tender cabbage leaves and baked in rich tomato sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large head of cabbage
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 can (10.5 oz) tomato soup
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup tomato sauce for topping
- Optional: fresh herbs for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the outer leaves from the cabbage. Blanch the leaves in boiling water for about 2 minutes or until soft and pliable. Remove and let cool.
- In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, cooked rice, chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Take a blanched cabbage leaf, place a spoonful of the meat mixture at the base of the leaf, fold in the sides and roll it up tightly.
- Place the rolls seam side down in a baking dish, snuggling them close together.
- Pour the tomato soup over the rolls and add tomato sauce on top if desired.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, until the rolls are cooked through and the sauce is bubbly.
- Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
