Description

Delicious citrus-infused lemon rolls, perfect for cozy mornings and gatherings.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 packet instant yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice

For the icing:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons lemon juice

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, mix milk, melted butter, egg, lemon zest, and lemon juice until well combined.
  3. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and gently mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, or until it feels smooth and slightly elastic under your hands.
  5. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 60 minutes or until it has doubled in size.
  6. Roll out the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Spread a bit of softened butter over the surface, then sprinkle with sugar and lemon zest.
  8. Starting from one edge, roll the dough tightly into a log.
  9. Slice into even rolls, about 1 inch thick.
  10. Place the rolls in a greased baking pan, cover them again, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  11. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes.
  12. For the icing, mix the powdered sugar and lemon juice until smooth.
  13. Drizzle the icing over the warm rolls, watching it melt into the nooks and crannies.
