Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 cup beef broth
- 4 slices Provolone or Gruyere cheese
- 4 burger buns
- Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
- Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they’re golden and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
- Season the onions with salt and pepper, then pour in the beef broth. Allow everything to simmer together for an additional 5 minutes.
- Shape the ground beef into patties, seasoning each with salt and pepper.
- Cook the patties on a hot grill or stovetop until they reach your desired doneness.
- Place a slice of cheese on each patty in the last minute of cooking and cover the pan to melt the cheese.
- Assemble your burgers by placing each patty on a bun, topping with caramelized onions and your favorite condiments.
Notes
You can caramelize the onions in advance and store them in the refrigerator for up to three days.
