Description

Tender beef patties topped with caramelized onions and melted cheese, giving you the hearty flavors of French onion soup in burger form.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 4 slices Provolone or Gruyere cheese
  • 4 burger buns
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Thyme or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they’re golden and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
  2. Season the onions with salt and pepper, then pour in the beef broth. Allow everything to simmer together for an additional 5 minutes.
  3. Shape the ground beef into patties, seasoning each with salt and pepper.
  4. Cook the patties on a hot grill or stovetop until they reach your desired doneness.
  5. Place a slice of cheese on each patty in the last minute of cooking and cover the pan to melt the cheese.
  6. Assemble your burgers by placing each patty on a bun, topping with caramelized onions and your favorite condiments.

Notes

You can caramelize the onions in advance and store them in the refrigerator for up to three days.
