Description

A comforting side dish infused with rich flavors of French onion soup and butter, perfect for any family dinner.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup long grain white rice (uncooked)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) French onion soup (condensed)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) beef broth (or water with beef bouillon)
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, sliced into pats
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional garnish: chopped parsley or shredded cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease your baking dish.
  2. In the baking dish, combine the rice, French onion soup, beef broth, and chopped onions if using. Stir to combine.
  3. Place the butter slices evenly over the rice mixture.
  4. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  5. Remove foil and bake uncovered for an additional 20–25 minutes until the liquid is absorbed and the top is golden.
  6. Let sit for a few minutes, then fluff with a fork. Garnish with parsley or cheese if desired and serve warm.

Notes

Make ahead by prepping the dish and storing in the fridge for up to a day. Reheat leftovers in the oven or microwave.
